2017/18 Vision and Implementation
At Manor Field Junior School, we develop our children’s resilience and motivation, which enables them to engage confidently with and enjoy our Mathematics curriculum. Our broad Mathematics curriculum develops their skills in reasoning, problem solving and arithmetic.
In our daily teaching of Mathematics, we use a variety of teaching and learning styles to develop children’s knowledge, skills and understanding. Encouraging children’s curiosity and ensuring they understand the importance of maths in everyday life, is a fundamental part of enabling Manor Field learners to become successful and confident mathematicians. Children engage in an integrated curriculum, which ensures Maths is incorporated into their current topic, as well as real life scenarios.
We recognise the range of differing abilities among our children and provide suitable learning opportunities that allow all children to access the challenges within the curriculum. We achieve this through adult support, peer support, group work, personalised learning and use of practical equipment, as well as planning lessons daily to suit the needs of the particular children within each class.
As a school, we also use Mathletics, which promotes an enjoyment of Maths online and allows children to access the curriculum in a different way both at school and at home. We value the importance of times table recall by having a school ‘Times Table Belt Challenge’. As children progress, they achieve a certificate for their particular colour belt, and at the highest level children continue to be challenged by allowing them to compete against each other and the head teacher.
