The Arts

Vision and Implementation

At Manor Field, we define the Arts as creative and imaginative activity through drama, dance, music and visual art. We believe that they are an essential part of education, and are planned into our subject areas to enhance learning experiences, and to create rich learning environments. The Arts are used as a means of bringing subjects to life, whether it be using role-play and drama to problem solve in numeracy, or designing and creating soup in a science topic. The school provides a range of opportunities for children to be creative and express their ideas and emotions in different ways.

“Art and design is not just a subject to learn, but an activity that you can practise: with your hands, your eyes, your whole personality." Quentin Blake, Illustrator and Children's Laureate.

We give children a wide variety of high quality art experiences, using a variety of media for drawing, painting, printing and sculpture, which will engage and challenge them.

"Music is a powerful form of communication that can transform the way pupils feel, think and act."

The arts have the power to inspire, inform, stimulate, challenge and entertain.  Manor Field is a Rights Respecting School and so, throughout the school calendar, our children are given a range of platforms to perform in a variety of contexts, for different purposes. These range from our Christmas Café, Talent show, singing assemblies, music concerts and more. This is in line with Article 29 of the UNCRC, which states that ‘Children’s education should develop each child’s personality, talents and abilities to the fullest. It should encourage children to respect others, human rights and their own and other cultures.’ All classes receive timetabled music lessons, as we encourage them to appreciate all aspects of music in developing skills in singing, composing and playing a range of instruments. By providing a sense of enjoyment and a positive attitude, we increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
